the pianist announced the beginning of the ceremony via deep chords from her instrument. i leaned out of my pew looking towards the back of the church. i saw bella being ushered towards the doorway. then she and jon david came strolling through, smiling the whole way, holding hands the whole way, hamming it up the whole way. the girl stepped up. the girl nailed it. the girl had the biggest bag of french fries mcdonalds had to offer in her very near future.

one minorish problem though; once she got down to where alex and i were sitting, she wanted to sit on the other side of the aisle with jon david. we never really got this far in the rehearsal so were on unpracticed terrain. i tried coaxing her to her seat next to me but with the procession continuing, time was short. it was when i ultimately said, or rather forcibly whispered, "no you cannot sit over there, come here! come here NOW!", that i knew i had overstepped my parental wiggle-room. call it the look in her eyes. or perhaps the defiance of her stance. or maybe the way her eyes said 'you blew it now you poor bastard'. regardless of how i knew, i knew. i knew it was about to get ugly up in this here church.
