Deal Breaker: The First Myron Bolitar Novel
by Harlan Coben
Publisher Note:
The debut of Myron Bolitar, a hotheaded, tenderhearted sports agent and one of the most fascinating and complex heroes in suspense fiction, Deal Breaker is a page-turning classic from Edgar Award–winner and master storyteller Harlan Coben.
Troy Note:
I got duped a bit into reading this book. Coben has a more recent book that I was directed to. Before settling on it, I did a quick search to see if there were any other books I should read before taking in the title I was considering. I've been burned a few times by starting or even finishing a book when I learn I should have started somewhere else (e.g. Lonesome Dove). So I did my research and hit a wall of Harlan Coben fanatics who endlessly fawned over him, several suggesting that if you are going to read something it is best to start at the beginning of his catalog. This is no slight suggestion as his output would rival Stephen King's. But, I try not to refuse advice from people who know more than I do on a topic.
So this was his first book. And it felt like a first book (granted a solid first book). But I don't know if I got twenty more of them in me to get to the book I want to read. My reading list is a little beefy for those sorts of commitments. So I may be jumping ahead, or at least sticking with his standalone novels. You will likely see another title by him float through here in the near future.
Passage(s) of Note:
She looked at him like he was an old man jogging in a Speedo.
