This innocent looking stretch of water was the site of 1976's Big Thompson Flood, considered to be one of the most horrific weather incidents of the 20th century. I remember standing on my back porch watching the black sky where rain deluged that stretch of the mountains. To this day, you can still see remnants of that flood in the form of massive boulders, displaced by the water and resting in precarious spots along the canyon.
