SCENE |
marty and anthony are having their morning cuddle. below is one of their many, many conversations. |
|
ANFER
could you and dad have gotten married in the olden days?
MARTY
when?
ANFER
like before martin luther king.
MARTY
yeah. why couldn't we?
ANFER
because they had laws against white and black people marrying.
MARTY
they did, but how does that relate to dad and i?
ANFER
because dad's black.
MARTY
uhhm. but your dad is not black.
ANFER
yes he is.
MARTY
uhhm . . . no he isn't.
ANFER
ok.
with this last utterance anthony turned from marty ending the converation. marty is convinced that he in no way believed what she said or that i was not, in fact, black. marty got the full sense that he just simply did not believe her.

NOTE |
i can't wait to get the call from the school asking us to tell our blonde, albino kid to stop telling his classmates he's half black. for those that don't know me, this is what i look like, next to a young bella. i can confess i would not have gone far in the arian movement but i've also never been mistaken for a black man and were i told i one day would be, i would have never guessed it would be my seven year old son making the claim. |
