MARTY
I want to play this game with you that I recently saw.
TROY
All right, go ahead.
MARTY
Ok. You first think of something that you want.
TROY
This game's easy.
MARTY
Like a BMW Z-3.
TROY
All good.
MARTY
Then you ask what would you have to do to get it.
TROY
Cash in some stock, save some money.
MARTY
Then you ask why you want it.
TROY
Because chicks dig guys that drive Z-3's.
MARTY
So for added security or to build self-esteem would be your answer.
TROY
Yeah, like I said, chicks diggin' me.
MARTY
So think of other ways that you could achieve the same goal, but without the BMW.
TROY
Does that mean, I don't get the car.
MARTY
Not necessarily. It just means that you should identify why it is you want something and see if you really need the thing or if you can do something internally to sate the need and then you don't need the object.
TROY
So, the car's out?
MARTY
Forget the car. Let's say I want one of the new Apple iPods, and ...
TROY (in exaggerated falsetto voice)
OH ... MY ... GOD! I totally want one of those too. How totally awesome. I've wanted one since the day they came out. 1000 songs. Talk about being awesomely connected. All the music one could ever need on their hip. And talk about stylish, they're crazy stylish. When are you getting yours?
MARTY
Soon. I just need to get rid of my husband first.
TROY
I bet he wouldn't care as long as he had an iPod.
MARTY
Yeah ... I bet he wouldn't.
