SETTING |
walking to school |
SCENE |
anthony and i are walking to school. i saw a large worm trying to cross a drying sidewalk and asked anthony to help him out by tossing him in a nearby garden bed. |
 |
ANTHONY (after tossing the worm in the gardenbed)
i'm still in my picking up worms age.
TROY
what?
ANTHONY
after i go through 'the change', then i won't like doing it anymore.
TROY
why do you say that?
ANTHONY
remember, alex used to pick up worms and then after the change didn't anymore.
TROY
oh. right. i don't know if it has to go that way.
ANTHONY (uncertain of my logic)
hmm.

NOTE |
two things:
1. "the change" in our home stands for the puberty.
2. there is nothing anthony can't recall with near-perfect acuity. he's so reliable that anytime i'm trying to remember something from a show, book or something that happened in our home, i just ask him. alex and i have this ability but it only applies to things we are deeply interested in. with anthony it doesn't seem to matter, or perhaps he's just interested in everything. also, it makes debating anthony in just about anything near impossible and almost always wildly frustrating and/or humiliating. i already hold pity for his future high school debate team opponents.
